Yangzhou, formerly known as Guangling, Jiangdu and Weiyang, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, an important part of the Yangtze River Economic Belt of Jiangsu Province, a member city of the Nanjing Metropolitan Area and a city of the Yangtze River Delta City Cluster, and one of the 27 cities in the central region of the Yangtze River Delta. It is a world heritage city, the capital of world cuisine, the capital of world canals, the capital of East Asian culture, the first batch of national historical and cultural cities and a scenic tourist city with traditional characteristics. The city has a total area of 6,591.21 square kilometers, with three districts and one county under its jurisdiction and two county-level cities under its escrow. Yangzhou successfully held the 2017 World Sports Event and Tourism Summit, the World Geographical Indication Conference, the World Canal City Forum, the 2018 World Canal Style Folklore Exhibition, the 19th Jiangsu Provincial Games, the 10th Jiangsu Provincial Horticultural Expo, and will host the 2021 Yangzhou World Horticultural Expo and the 2022 World Half Marathon Championship.
2018 China’s top 100 cities list was announced and Yangzhou ranked 45th. in November 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 Chinese cities in the overall wellbeing index. on October 31, 2019, Yangzhou was selected as the world capital of gastronomy. in October 2020, it was named as a national model city (county) of double support.
