Tasty Congee & Wuntun Noodle Shop

Serving HK local delicacies and classic dishes! I really enjoyed the wonton noodles (though the large portion didn’t seem as large to me but i’m also greedy when it comes to wonton haha). The congee was silky and the general quality of the food was great. Affordable too!

Fu Ho

A Michelin-starred restaurant specialising in Cantonese cuisine. Ordered the aubergine, beancurd skin and fish head stew (must order, this was DELICIOUS), preserved Chinese sausage, Chinese mushrooms and chicken claypot rice and the water chestnut and dried squid pork meat… cake? I don’t know the english word for it woops. Good quality food that seemed to be full of regulars.

Ope for the Japanese wagyu hotpot buffet – it’s worth the extra dollars! I always try to have less of the fishballs and noodles to focus more on the wagyu slices and veggies there. Great value for money when you’re in the mood for hotpot and wagyu!

Honeymoon Desserts

A cutesy HK-style desserts shop. I went for the coconut milk sago pudding and the mango snow-capped sago dessert. I’d say the hot coconut milk was the winner here! Both are good though.

A lot of choice of desserts including classic Chinese ones like glutinous rice balls and black sesame soup along with modernised favourites of french toast, sundaes and fruit salads!

Maxim’s Palace

A chain of dim sum restaurants. The local one I went to was ‘alriiiight’. There are much better places!

30 thoughts on “Speaking Cantonese in Hong Kong | 3 Day Food Travel Vlog”

  1. My ah po has never been so interested in a youtube video before until I showed her this vlog, she says you speak super fluently and I've replayed this video for her more time than I can count ;-;

  2. This is such a beautiful video. I'm so glad I found your channel! I love hearing you speak Cantonese, motivates me to do my VLOGS in Canto too. Thanks for being a great inspiration ♥️

  3. omg i enjoyed watching this video so much! nice editing & you speak cantonese very well!

by watching your videos i can improve my cantonese while i also learn how to translate it in english at the same time, win win!

this video made me realise how much i miss hong kong, how much i miss chinese food (haven't eaten out in chinese restaurants for a year since the pandemic) and how fun it seems to travel and to try new foods around the world!

  4. Your Cantonese is not bad. You have no British accent whatsoever when speaking Cantonese. Your British accent seems to pretty much only comes up exclusively when speaking English from your other videos.

  5. Actually all Chinese schools through out the world (Including Hong Kong) are teaching in Mandarin, read, write and speak Mandarin (Putonghua). These clearly proved that Chinese people only have one single language, that is Mandarin. Others, such as Cantonese, Hakka, Fu Jian, Fu Chow, Ming Nan, Shanghai, Hu Bei, Hu Nan, etc. are all native provincial dialects. A standard and legal national official language of a country must be approved, legalized and registered by the federal government of the related country. Therefore, mainland China and Taiwan have the same official language (Mandarin) . Cantonese is never a language, because it never belonged to any country. It was previously made by Cantonese main stream (90% came from Kwangtung province in China) as one of their official languages after English when the British was dominating Hong Kong as their colony. After July 1,1997, the British returned Hong Kong to China, the official language status of Cantonese has been declining because Chinese federal government clarified that Cantonese is not an official language of China including Hong Kong as part of China. But the Cantonese people were very united and brave, they insisted to use their mother dialect (Cantonese) but not China's official language, because they all mentioned that Mandarin is not a Chinese language, it is a Manchurian or Mongolian language, but there is no evidence. Who knows? Finally China federal government let them continue using Cantonese until now.

  6. Her Cantonese is “pretty good”???!!! What are you people smoking? It’s native level! Crazy you can speak both English and Canto perfectly……!

  7. thanks for the canto vlog..reminds me to practice listening too besides speaking…even worse..especially I know a bit of 3 dialects and keep mixing it up sounding like a confused bee LOL

  8. Your cantonese sounds fine👍 but totally understand what you mean about practicing in hk, helps alot 😊can't wait for your next cantonese vlog🤗

  9. I've noticed that for words that you pronounce with an sh sound, I say them with an s sound, like for "on top" or "pyjamas". I wonder if it is a dialect or generational difference, or if I am just wrong (which is quite possible aha). For reference, my parents are from HK but I was born in and grew up in the UK, and my speaking Cantonese is nowhere near as good as yours, though I can understand most of what you say.

Furthermore, I say Singapore the way you said it initially. I have never heard Sangapore

  10. Such a good vid- editing, colours, filming… you really captured the fast pace of HK through your editing. And your canto is great!! I so need to practice haha, literally sound like a 5 year old when speaking, actually maybe worse!
