Bozhou is a prefecture-level city in Anhui province, known as Bo for short. Bozhou is a famous national historical and cultural city, where human beings have been active since the Neolithic era and is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Chinese culture. During the Inferno and Yellow Dynasties, the emperor was replaced by Zhuan Xu, and his capital was located in Bo. The Shang Dynasty was founded by Cheng Tang, who destroyed the Xia Dynasty and established the capital in Bo for 190 years. Since the establishment of Qiao County in the Qin Dynasty, there have been many dynasties, most of which have been established as states, counties or counties, with Qiao County being made the “accompanying capital” in the second year of the Huangchu period of the Wei Dynasty (221). In the 15th year of the Yuan dynasty (1355), Liu Futong made Han Lin’er the emperor of Bozhou and established the “Song” regime, with Bozhou as the capital, making it the official capital of the “three dynasties”. Bozhou has an area of 8,522.58 square kilometres and a resident population of 4,996,840 as of 1 November 2020.
Bozhou City has three counties and one district under its jurisdiction: Fengyang, Mengcheng, Lixin and Qiaocheng, of which Qiaocheng is the seat of the municipal party committee and government authorities. The planned area of the central city has expanded to 218 square kilometres, with an average annual growth rate of urbanisation ranking 1st in Anhui Province. By 2020, the built-up area of the central city of Bozhou will have expanded to 117.4 square kilometres.
Bozhou has ten major industries such as modern Chinese medicine, liquor, food manufacturing and processing of agricultural products, automobiles and parts, cultural tourism, coal chemical and new energy, electronic information, modern service industry, strategic emerging industries, and labour-intensive equipment manufacturing.
Bozhou is the bridgehead of the Central Plains region connecting to the Yangtze River Delta world-class city group, a member city of the Yangtze River Delta city group, the world capital of Chinese medicine, half of the top 100 pharmaceutical companies are located in Bozhou, and it is the world’s largest distribution centre and price formation centre for Chinese herbal medicines.
